Geriatric Trauma & Bone Health

In older adults we balance fracture care with comorbidities, cognition, bone quality and fall risk. I prioritise analgesia, gentle handling and early diagnosis. For hip and fragility fractures, we target early surgery when appropriate to reduce complications. My team optimises diabetes, cardiac status, anticoagulation, delirium risk, nutrition and vitamin D/calcium.

We start early mobilisation, thrombo-prophylaxis, chest care and constipation prevention. Family counselling includes safe transfer techniques, home hazards, bone-strengthening therapy and realistic goals. Discharge planning covers gait aids, community physio and follow-up imaging.

Progress may be gradual, but dignity and independence guide every decision.
